The New Reality of WB Police Recruitment
With WBPRB transitioning to a single written examination followed by PMT/PET and interview, the 85-mark written test carries make-or-break significance. Every fraction of a mark determines whether you clear your district's cutoff (UR, OBC-A, OBC-B, SC, ST).
Syllabus & Weightage Breakdown (85 Marks in 60 Minutes)
General Awareness & General Knowledge: 25 Marks
English: 10 Marks
Elementary Mathematics (Madhyamik Standard): 25 Marks
Reasoning & Logical Analysis: 25 Marks
Negative Marking: 0.25 (1/4th) for each incorrect answer
Notice the math: 85 questions in 60 minutes means you have exactly 42.3 seconds per question, which must include reading the bilingual question, solving it, and bubbling the physical OMR circle!
The 3-Pass OMR Bubbling Technique
Attempting questions sequentially from Q1 to Q85 is the #1 mistake candidates make. In recent exams, difficult arithmetic series or lengthy blood relations were deliberately placed in the first 15 questions to trap aspirants.
Pass 1: Instant Hits (0 to 18 Minutes)
- Solve all 25 General Knowledge questions and 10 English questions.
- You either know the capital of an Indian state, the historic founder of the Pala dynasty, or the meaning of an English synonym, or you don't.
- Target: Lock in 28–32 answers and immediately bubble them on your physical OMR sheet.
Pass 2: Madhyamik Arithmetic & Visual Reasoning (18 to 45 Minutes)
- Solve straightforward Arithmetic: Percentage (শতকরা), Profit & Loss (লাভ ও ক্ষতি), Simple Interest (সরল সুদ), and Time & Distance (সময় ও দূরত্ব).
- Solve pattern reasoning: Coding-Decoding, Mirror images, and Number series.
- Target: Solve and bubble 30–35 high-confidence questions.
Pass 3: Tough Calculation & OMR Double-Check (45 to 57 Minutes)
- Dedicate this time to multi-step sums (Partnership business, Compound interest).
- Do NOT guess when unsure: negative marking of 0.25 will erase your hard-earned buffer.
- Leave the final 3 minutes strictly to ensure your Roll Number, Question Booklet Series, and category bubbles are pristine.
High-Yield Madhyamik Math Topics for WBP
WBPRB mathematics is strictly based on the WBBSE Class 10 Syllabus. You do NOT need advanced calculus or trigonometry. Prioritize these 6 areas:
LCM & HCF (ল.সা.গু ও গ.সা.গু): Word problems involving bells ringing together or minimum tile counts.
Ratio & Proportion (অনুপাত ও সমানুপাত): Milk and water mixtures, coin ratio in bags.
Time & Work (সময় ও কার্য): Alternating day work problems and pipe & cistern.
Speed, Time & Train Problems (গতিবেগ ও ট্রেন): Passing a pole vs passing a bridge of length $L$.
Mensuration (পরিমিতি): Area and perimeter of rectangles, circles, and cylinder volume.
Always practice on real printable A4 OMR sheets with a 0.7mm black ballpoint pen to develop natural hand-eye coordination before exam day.
